How People Get Rich Now (Paul Graham)
How are people making these new fortunes? Roughly 3/4 by starting companies and 1/4 by investing. Of the 73 new fortunes in 2020, 56 derive from founders' or early employees' equity (52 founders, 2 early employees, and 2 wives of founders), and 17 from managing investment funds
So the decreasing cost of starting a startup increases the number of rich people in two ways: it means that more people start them, and that those who do can raise money on better terms
That's why founders sometimes get so rich so young now. The low initial cost of starting a startup means founders can start young, and the fast growth of companies today means that if they succeed they could be surprisingly rich just a few years later
GIBBI View: This is the third time that I wrote this essay (October 14th, February 23rd) but I wanted to write here because it’s very inspirational essay and motivate me to keep working to create my startup and become billionaire; how you know in this moment I’m working in this blog where in the same time I have a youtube and spotify channels, and I want that this blog can become a media company, and in a startup that I call it GIBBI Speak
Steelers Send Fitzpatrick To Dolphins For Ramsey (NFL)
The Dolphins are sending cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick to the Steelers in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday. The teams later announced the trade
Miami previously paid Ramsey $4 million this offseason and tacked on another $3 million to facilitate the trade, while Pittsburgh is giving Ramsey a $1.5 million raise and covering the rest of his $26.6 million salary this season, per Rapoport and Pelissero
Ramsey has 24 career interceptions and 108 passes defensed, with 534 tackles over nine seasons to supplement his shutdown ways. He'll turn 31 during the upcoming season and he remains an instinctual defender capable of elevating a secondary
GIBBI View: This was a surprise to me because I didn’t expect it, but in the end Minkah has had a back to back very bad seasons and there were rumors that some players weren’t in a good mood with Minkah so it looks that it was a great movement to improve the defense; about Steelers, this has been a very atypical offseason because Steelers don’t make this kind of movements in free agent, but I relate this that Mr. Rooney is tired to don’t win in playoffs, so now Mr. Tomlin needs to qualifiy this team to playoffs and win minimum one game there of he could be fired next year
Netflix Teams Up with NASA to Boost its Live TV Offering (Tech Crunch)
Netflix and NASA announced a new partnership on Monday that will bring live space programming to the streamer later this summer
Subscribers will be able to watch live streams of rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, and live views of Earth from the International Space Station, as well as additional content from NASA+, the space agency’s ad-free streaming app, which launched in 2023
Until recently, most of Netflix’s live content was produced in-house or presented as exclusive live events, so partnering with NASA is a sign that Netflix is attempting to broaden its live programming
GIBBI View: It looks that now Netflix will want to enter to live events with this new partnership, and try to compete against the TV and cable TV; in my opinion, Netflix has the best content (movies, series) against other streaming services (Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, etc)
NFL is Relaunching its “NFL Top 100” Series as an X Original (The Hollywood Reporter)
The National Football League is relaunching its annual NFL Top 100 list as an original series on X, the Elon Musk-owned social platform. In past years, the series (which sees current NFL players vote on which of their peers they think are the best in the game) has run as a TV special on NFL Network
The top 10 finale will still run on NFL Network Sept. 1, but beginning June 30 and continuing through Aug. 29, the NFL will debut two short-form episodes highlighting two players on the list every weekday, continuing over the course of the summer (the first player, #100, Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey, was revealed Monday morning)
NFL Films, which has become a powerhouse studio on its own terms, produces shows like Hard Knocks for HBO and Quarterback for Netflix, it produces shows for NFL Network, ESPN and Roku Channel. The key is fitting the right programming to the right platform
GIBBI View: NFL is trying to “explote” its content in all the streaming services and social platforms because NFL know that its product is “easy” to consume, so I think that NFL is trying to evaluate if X can be as profitable like the other streaming services
New WNBA Teams In Cleveland, Detroit & Philadelphia Announced (CNBC)
The WNBA announced on Monday it has awarded three new expansion teams to Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia, growing the league to 18 teams over the next five years
The league currently has 13 teams, with franchises in Toronto and Portland set to join in 2026. The Cleveland team will begin play in 2028, followed by Detroit in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030. Each team will pay $250 million in franchise fees to join the league. Those fees would represent a historic high for the WNBA
The league said Monday each location was selected after analyzing market viability, infrastructure and local support. Engelbert said Houston, specifically, is one the league will continue to have its eye on for future expansions
GIBBI View: Now the american sports teams/leagues are a great assest to invest, and now the women’s sports teams/leagues are very popular to invest and a lot of private firms and angel investors are trying to take advantage of that and increase their wealth; also, this can be a consequence of Caitlin Clark’s effect in WNBA?
