Cruz Azul vs Mazatlán (GIBBI’s Editorial Staff)
Round fo 16: Tonight at 18:00 CT on Audi Field (Washington, D.C.)
Cruz Azul tied 0-0 and defeated 5-4 Orlando City on penaty shotouts on Round of 32
Mazatlán defeated 2-1 D.C. United on Round of 32
My Prediction: Cruz Azul win by 2 goal difference and advance to quaterfinals
GIBBI View: Cruz Azul have dominated the 3 games that had played in this tournament but haven’t been able to win any game, so I think that because Cruz Azul will play against a Liga MX Team will have more possibilities to win the game
Disney To Invest $60B In Parks & Resorts (BNN Bloomberg)
Walt Disney Co. unveiled a slew of new theme-park attractions, including its first land devoted to movie villains and a doubling of its Avengers Campus in California, as part of an extensive expansion of its resorts business
Disney announced long-term plans for its parks and resorts unit last September that included doubling capital investment to $60 billion over 10 years
Disney is planning four new cruise ships, in addition to four already in development and five currently at sea, a huge commitment to that industry. The new ships will be completed between 2027 and 2031
GIBBI View: Park & Resorts Division was responsible of 69% of Disney’s income last year, so I understand why Disney decided to increase the investments in this division; let’s see if one day I can go to visit Disneyland and Disney World
How A Small Company In Georgia Is Saving NFL Lives (Huddle Up)
The product (Guardian Cap) weighs just seven ounces, costs $125 per cap (or $70 for the youth version), and can be attached to a helmet via snaps and velcro without altering the helmet’s functionality or safety
NFL says it has seen a 52% reduction in concussions for those position groups compared to the previous three-year average rate when Guardian Caps weren’t worn in practice (since 2022)
Guardian Sports is a good business that has generated millions of dollars in sales while potentially saving lives. However, it is also important to note that this is really just one part of the NFL’s larger plan to protect its $20 billion annual business
GIBBI View: NFL is investing a lot of money to try to reduce the number of injuries per year and to make the game more healthy, the problem is that We watch NFL because it’s controlled violence and if you eliminate this the most probably is that the game will begin to decrease its football level and fans will stop to watch it
Universal Music & Meta Announce “Expanded Global Agreement” For AI (VARIETY)
Meta have announced an “expanded global, multi-year agreement that will further evolve the creative and commercial opportunities” for UMG artists and Universal Music Publishing Group songwriters across Meta’s network of platforms
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the announcement says the new agreement “reflects the two companies’ shared commitment to protecting human creators and artistry, including ensuring that artists and songwriters are compensated fairly”
In 2017, UMG became the first major music company to license its recorded music and music publishing catalogs across Facebook’s platforms
GIBBI View: This is the kind of deals that make that Meta could reach OpenAI in the AI Race, also it’s better to make deal/partnerships with media/musi companies that steal and use their data and to be lawsuited; now Meta entered to a new market, music market, where could compete against Spotify and Apple Music?
Kevin Durant Becomes PSG Limited Partner (Sportico)
Kevin Durant has become a limited partner in France’s largest soccer club, Paris Saint-Germain. Durant made his investment through a specialized vehicle that only contains Arctos Partners’ stake in PSG, according to a source familiar with the deal
The U.S. private investment firm, which has stakes in sports franchises in the NBA, MLB and NHL, bought a 12.5% stake in PSG at a $4.3 billion valuation at the end of last year
While the Thirty Five Ventures co-founder is acquiring his position in PSG through Arctos, the club remains majority owned by Qatar Sports Investments, which bought the French powerhouse in 2011
GIBBI View: I’ve written before in this newsletter that in 5 to 10 years, We’ll see several athletes with a fortune of $1B+ because now the athletes are better educated in finances; also, it’s clear that invest in a sport team is a great asset (NBA, NFL, European Soccer Team)
