Lakers vs Bulls (GIBBI’s Editorial Staff)
Tonight at 22:30 ET on Crypto Arena (Los Ángeles, California)
Lakers: 43-26 record (4th place on Western Conference)
Bulls: 30-40 record (9th place on Eastern Conference)
GIBBI View: This is a must win for Lakers because the Lakers are 1.5 games below Rockets (2nd seed) and 0.5 games below Nuggets (3rd seed), so Lakers need to get 2nd seed to avoid Thunder until Western Conference Finals (of course, if Lakers qualify to that stage); Bulls were most part of the season in 10th place and this week went up to 9th place, so Bulls are looking for to reach 7th or 8th place to have the possibility to play two games in play-in; My Prediction: Lakers win by 5+ points difference
StubHub Files For IPO (VARIETY)
StubHub, a secondary ticketing marketplace for live events, filed a registration statement Friday with the SEC for an initial public offering
According to its S-1 filing with the SEC, StubHub generated $1.77 billion in revenue, up 29% year over year, and had a net loss of $2.8 million for 2024
More than 40 million tickets were sold on StubHub’s marketplace last year from around 1 million sellers, according to the company
GIBBI View: Here in México the resale is illegal and it’s not legally established like in U.S., so when there’s a big event in the country (Liga MX games, NBA/NFL/MLB Games, concerts, etc) you can see people outside the venues reselling the tickets (2x,3x, more expensive) and hiding from the police
Yahoo Sells TechCrunch To Investment Firm Regent (VARIETY)
TechCrunch has a new owner: Yahoo sold the tech-news site to investment company Regent for an undisclosed amount
TechCrunch publishes news, podcasts, newsletters and videos about the tech world and hosts several in-person and virtual events throughout the year, including its flagship Disrupt conference and TC Early Stage
TechCrunch was acquired in 2010 by AOL for $25 million. Verizon subsequently acquired both Yahoo and AOL and merged their brands under the Yahoo umbrella; in 2021, Verizon sold Yahoo for $5 billion to private-equity firm Apollo Global
GIBBI View: I thought that Yahoo was “dead” because its bad investments in the past but it looks that they have invested in a lot of companies and control a lot of them under its holdin,g and Yahoo is still genering money (the most important of a business); by the way, everyday I read TechCrunch to know about the tech news and most of the news that I write in this newsletter are from TechCrunch
Good Good Golf Raises $45M From Peyton Manning Omaha Production (The Hollywood Reporter)
Creator-driven media companies and golf-focused media companies are both having a moment, so it is only logical that the creator-focused golf media company Good Good Golf has been able to raise $45 million in a new funding round
The new round is being led by Creator Sports Capital, alongside partners that include Manhattan West Private Equity, Sunflower Bank, and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions
The significant fundraise comes as creator-driven media companies spark enormous interest from investors, looking to get involved with the next generation of media companies
GIBBI View: My goal is to make that this blog can become a media company, so for that reason I create content almost everyday and I post it in this blog, youtube and spotify channels
Aaron Rodgers Meets With The Pittsburgh Steelers & Leave Without Signing (AP)
The four-time NFL MVP met with the Steelers on Friday, a person with knowledge of the visit told The Associated Press. Rodgers spent several hours in the team’s facility gathering information but left without signing a contract
Pittsburgh currently has an opening at quarterback. Justin Fields, who along with Russell Wilson led the Steelers to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth last season, signed with the Jets last week. Wilson is a free agent but does not appear to be part of Pittsburgh’s plans for 2025
The 41-year-old Rodgers appears to be in no rush to make a decision. He’s spent time in California recently trying to figure out if he wanted to come back for a 21st season
GIBBI View: Aaron Rodgers has been one of the best quaterbacks in the last 20 years, and he’ll be a Hall of Fame when he retires but in this moment he’s not in his best quaterback level and he’s not a top ten QB, so I don’t understand why Tomlin (head coach) and Omar Khan are allowing that Rodgers “plays” with Steelers about if he will play or not with the team next season, I think that this is because Tomlin and Khan didn’t prepare a good QB after Ben’s retirement and now they’re “suffering” the pressure of the Steelers’ fans (I include) and NFL experts to start to win in playoffs, so in this moment the best would be that Mason Rudolph would be the starting QB for the next season
