OpenAI Launches Study Mode in ChatGPT (Tech Crunch)
OpenAI announced Tuesday the launch of Study Mode, a new feature within ChatGPT that aims to help students develop their own critical thinking skills, rather than simply obtain answers to questions
OpenAI says Study Mode is rolling out to logged in users on ChatGPT’s Free, Plus, Pro, and Team plans starting Tuesday. The company expects to introduce Study Mode to its Edu subscribers, which largely consists of young people whose school administrator’s have purchased a plan for the entire student body
Now with the launch of Study Mode, OpenAI hopes to improve ChatGPT as a learning tool, and not just an answer engine. Anthropic launched a similar tool for its AI chatbot Claude, called Learning Mode, in April
GIBBI View: Interesting new feature that OpenAI is going to launch, personally I don’t like to use the AI Engine because I search everything from Google but if AI Engine can offer learning tool I think that I can change
L.A.B. Golf sold to PE Firm at $200M+ Valuation (Front Office Sports)
J.J. Spaun’s 64-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to win the U.S. Open last month may have also helped the company behind his putter win a nine-figure sale to private-equity firm L Catteron
L Catterton is buying a majority stake in L.A.B. Golf, the maker of Spaun’s zero-torque DF3 putter, in a deal that values the company at more than $200 million, a person familiar with the matter confirmed to Front Office Sports. The companies announced the deal, without financial details, on Tuesday
L Catterton is a consumer-focused firm; other companies in its portfolio include Birkenstock and Just Food for Dogs. Past investments include exercise bike giant Peloton and road bike maker Pinarello.
GIBBI View: One week ago I wrote here that L Catterton had bought 20% of Flexjet, a private jet company, where L Catterton is trying to diversify its portfolio and in the same time offer better services to its customers
Spotify talks about Voice AI Interface in the future (Tech Crunch)
Spotify has experimented with various voice interfaces in the past, and more recently, added an AI DJ that introduces tunes the company thinks you’ll like and lets you make your own requests
Asked about how AI was affecting its business, Spotify Chief Product and Technology Officer Gustav Söderström noted that consumers today are able to talk to Spotify in plain English to request music, allowing the company to associate which phrases connect with which songs
Plus, AI technology would allow Spotify to do more than just predict what someone might want to listen to, whether music, podcasts, or audiobooks, as it does today. Instead of only making predictions, it would be able to “reason” over the user’s listening history and what they said to the AI DJ
GIBBI View: Talking about spotify and music, last year I wrote a business idea where I want to create a startup/app where you can connect it with your car radio by bluetooth and select the best songs that it’s singing in any of your local radio stations, and I called it GIBBI Radio Song Switch, so let’s see if later this year or next year I can start to develop it
Yelp is creating its own AI Videos about Restaurants (The Verge)
Yelp is going to use AI to stitch together user-posted content about restaurants, food, and nightlife businesses to make short videos about those businesses. Yelp initially started testing the AI-stitched videos last year, but they’re now available nationwide on the iOS app’s TikTok-like vertically scrolling home feed
Business operators can’t currently see the videos that are generated for users, and Yelp users also can’t currently opt out of having their photos or videos show up in Yelp’s AI-stitched videos
You can get an idea of what they’re like in the below video shared by Yelp. The vertical video blends together videos and images with an AI-generated voiceover and AI-generated captions to talk about things like the restaurant’s food, cocktails, and ambiance
GIBBI View: Now we’re seeing how companies/startups are starting to use and implement AI in their companies to improve their services and offer a better product to their customers, so this will help to reduce the process, bring more customers and increase revenues
Anthropic in talks to raise fresh capital at $150B Valuation (CNBC)
Anthropic is in talks to raise between $3 billion and $5 billion in a funding round led by Iconiq Capital that would value the artificial intelligence startup at $170 billion, CNBC has confirmed
The OpenAI competitor has been reeling in billions of dollars at a rapidly increasing valuation reflecting investors’ thirst for a piece in the fastest growing AI companies. In March, Anthropic closed a $3.5 billion round at a $61.5 billion, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners
Rivals are also turning to the Middle East. OpenAI still has $30 billion left to raise as part of its planned $40 billion round, and is working with Emirati firm G42 to build a massive data center in Abu Dhabi. OpenAI’s latest funding valued the company at about $300 billion
GIBBI View: The AI Startups are “burning” a lot of money and they’re raising billions of dollars each 3 to 4 months, and I think that this isn’t good financially move so I think that if AI Startups don’t start to have surplus I think that the AI bubble will explode next year
