NFL Players Cleared For LA 28 Olympics (Front Office Sports)
NFL owners unanimously approved a provision Tuesday to allow active players to participate in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, a highly anticipated move that will bring pro football stars into international competition
Additionally, the approval carried a series of other provisions, including the limit of one player per NFL team on each national team participating, and salary cap credits for any player who is injured at the Olympics
In addition to the safety and injury concerns, some owners, such as the Cowboys’ Jerry Jones, previously expressed worries about the late July timing of the 2028 Olympics and preparation for the NFL season that year
GIBBI View: I know that NFL players are super-athletes and physical other nations won’t be able to compete against them, but my concern is that NFL players don’t have the enought experience playing flag football and this could be a problem if let that NFL players and not Flag Football players represent the U.S Team, let’s see
23andMe To Be Bought For $256 Million (BBC)
The DNA testing firm 23andMe says it has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals for $256m (£192m)
23andMe said Regeneron had committed to comply with its privacy policies as part of the deal, and that Regeneron has security controls in place to protect user data
23andMe will continue to operate as a wholly-owned unit of Regeneron, which said it would use the firm's data for drug development
GIBBI View: Remember that in March, 23andMe filed for bankruptcy and its CEO, Anne Wojcicki decided to step down her position to have the opportunity to buy the company and become 23andMe private again but she wasn’t able to buy the company to take the full control of it
UEFA Europa League: Final - Prediction (GIBBI’s Editorial Staff)
Tottenham vs Manchester United, today at 15:00 ET on San Mamés Stadium (Bilbao, Spain)
Tottenham defeated Bodo Glimt in semifinal round (won 5-1 the series)
Manchester United Athletic Club in semifinal round (won 7-1 the series)
GIBBI View: This game is called the $100 Million Pounds Game because the winner of this game will qualify direct to UEFA Champions League 2025-2026 Season, and the winner team will earn this quantity for the four games played in home, tickets, broadcast money, and sponsor bonuses; both teams are the worst teams in Premier League (eliminating the 3 teams that relegated this season) because they’re located in 16th and 17th places, so this trophy will be a tremendous “gift” for a bad season for both clubs; My Prediction: Man United win by 1 goal difference and win the tournament
Google, Warby Parker Partnership To Develop AI Glasses (Tech Crunch)
Google says it will commit up to $150 million to the consumer eyewear company Warby Parker to jointly develop AI-powered smart glasses based on Android XR, the companies said on Tuesday during Google I/O 2025
Google has already committed $75 million to Warby Parker’s product development and commercialization costs, the companies said in a press release. Google says it will invest an additional $75 million, taking an equity stake in Warby Parker, should the eyewear manufacturer meet certain milestones
In the press release, Warby Parker and Google said they intend to launch a series of products over time. Their first line of eyewear will launch “after 2025” and will incorporate multimodal AI with prescription and non-prescription glasses
GIBBI View: There’s another competition to Meta-RayBan partnership in Smart Glasses field, where remember that 2 week ago I wrote here that Apple is planning to develop its own smart glasses; so I think that in 5 to 10 years from now, smart glasses will substitute smartphones, let’s see
USTA To Invest $800 Million In US Open Facilities In New York (CNBC)
The United States Tennis Association announced on Monday it will make an $800 million investment to transform and modernize tennis facilities for the U.S. Open
The project marks the largest single investment in U.S. Open history and will feature a top-to-bottom renovation of Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York, as well as a new $250 million player performance center
The project is expected to be completed by the 2027 U.S. Open. The USTA says play and fan access will not be affected for the 2026-27 events
GIBBI View: Of the four Grand Slams of the season, the most I like is Wimbledon, later Roland Garros, then U.S. Open and in the end Australias Open; what I like about U.S. Open is that I don’t have any problem to watch most of the game because New York has only 1-2 hours difference from México; remember that this sunday will start 2025 Roland Garros, where Carlos Alcaraz is the reining champion team and the favorite to win the tournament again
