Arctos Tops $11 Billion In Sport Assests (Sportico)
The private equity fund notes that sports teams in MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL have sustained their values through past economic downcycles including the dotcom bust, mortgage crisis and the pandemic
Sports teams have been good business for Arctos. Entering 2025, the firm had $11.3 billion in sports-related funds (it has another $2.7 billion in a separate strategy to provide liquidity to the investment community.) In April 2024, Arctos had about $7 billion in sports-related assets
Arctos is probably the largest institutional investor in North American sports. Through its funds it has ownership stakes in at least 15 teams in the four largest American sports leagues, including, most recently, the Buffalo Bills.
GIBBI View: I’ve written here several times when I write about business sports or when athletes invest in sport teams, that in this moment invest in american sport leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL) are a great assest and this article says why, but if I had the opportunity to invest in a sport team I won’t do it
OpenAI In Talks To Buy Windsurf For $3 Billion (Tech Crunch)
Windsurf, the maker of a popular AI coding assistant, is in talks to be acquired by OpenAI for about $3 billion, Bloomberg reported
If the deal happens, it would put OpenAI in direct competition with a number of other AI coding assistant providers, including Anysphere, the maker of Cursor, which OpenAI backed from its OpenAI Startup Fund
Windsurf, the company formerly known as Codeium, has been in talks to raise fresh funds at a $2.85 billion valuation led by Kleiner Perkins, TechCrunch reported in February. The company has reached about $40 million in annualized recurring revenue (ARR), according to our reporting
GIBBI View: Yesterday I wrote here that OpenAI is planning to develop its own social media network, so reading that OpenAI is planning to buy Windsurf I think that OpenAI is trying to create its own super-app like companies like X and Meta are trying to do
Lyft To Buy Taxi App Free Now For $200 Million (CNBC)
U.S. ride-hailing firm Lyft on Wednesday announced that it’s buying European taxi app Free Now in a 175 million euros ($199 million) deal
The company said that the acquisition — Lyft’s first in Europe — is expected to close in the second half of 2025, and that, once combined, the two companies will serve over 50 million combined annual users
The app is available in over 150 cities across nine countries, including Ireland, the U.K., Germany and France. Beyond traditional taxi and ride-hailing services, Free Now also offers other mobility options including e-scooters, e-mopeds and e-bikes
GIBBI View: Lyft acquired Free Now because wants to expand to Europe and increase its revenues?, or because Trump’s tariffs?; by the way, remember I’ve been working in create a GIBBI Carsharing App, it’s a customer to customer carsharing service, where remember that I pivoted from a B2C to C2C and ride-hailing companies like Lyft were my users but I understood that this idea won’t work in this moment and I decided to stop working in that and focus in create my Media Company

DC, Commanders Close To $3 Billion Deal For New Stadium (NBC Washington)
D.C. is close to a deal worth more than $3 billion to bring the Washington Commanders back to the District and build a new stadium at the RFK Stadium site
The Commanders would put up as much as $2.5 billion, and the District would provide up to $850 million, documents obtained by News4 show. D.C.’s funding would go toward what are referred to as eligible capital costs associated with the stadium and infrastructure for the stadium and surrounding 180-acre campus, including parking structures that will serve the entire development
The deal calls for the stadium and stadium parking to be completed by fall 2030. Commanders owner Josh Harris has been clear he wants a new stadium to be ready for the 2030 season
GIBBI View: Remember that Washington Commanders are the fourth NFL team that are building a new stadium alongside Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans
