YouTube on Thursday announced new video creation tools for Shorts, its short-form video feed that competes against TikTok
The features come at a time when TikTok, which is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, is at risk of an effective ban in the U.S. if it’s not sold to an American owner by April 5
Among the new tools is an updated video editor that allows creators to make precise adjustments and edits, a feature that automatically syncs video cuts to the beat of a song and AI stickers

X’s plan to boost revenue by selling off dormant usernames on its service is starting to shape up. According to recent changes found in X’s web application, the company is setting up a “handle inquiry” process that will allow Verified Organizations to bid on abandoned X handles
The idea of making money by selling handles is something X floated before under Elon Musk’s ownership. The New York Times reported in January 2023 that the company, then still called Twitter, was considering setting up an online auction process for bidding on handles
By allowing companies to officially buy their desired usernames, X could generate another revenue stream outside of subscriptions, ads, and developer access. The move could also encourage other X users to keep posting if they don’t want their handle to become dormant and then go up for sale
GIBBI View: I think that this new plan is going to work very well to X, because there’s thousands (if not million) of X’s accounts that have been inactived for more than 5 years and people can start to make an inquiry to acquire that X handle, in my case I’d make a inquiry for Gibrán or GIBBI X’s username

Patreon, a subscription platform for online creators, has signed podcasting partnerships with Sony Music Entertainment and Amazon’s Wondery, the company announced on Wednesday
Patreon says the partnerships are designed to make the site a home to fan engagement and exclusive perks for shows from major podcast networks, as the company looks to expand beyond its current base of podcasts
Patreon said podcasters on its platform earned more than $472 million from over 6.7 million paid memberships last year, making podcasting the single highest-earning category of creativity on the platform

Generative AI startup Runway announced $308 million in a new round of funding, which the company said will fund expansion of its film and animation studio
The Series D round of funding was led by General Atlantic with participation from Fidelity Management & Research Company, Baillie Gifford, Nvidia, SoftBank and other new and existing investors
Runway recently launched Gen-4, its next-generation series of AI models for media generation and world consistency. According to Valenzuela, Gen-4 “enables precise generation of consistent characters, locations and objects across scenes”
GIBBI View: Two of the three Runway co-founders are from Latam but the company is established in New York City, NY; so it’s great when I read this kind of news where people from Latam fund startups in U.S. and the best is that this company is in AI field; so let’s see if I can establish my company in U.S.
