Lakers vs Nuggets (GIBBI’s Editorial Staff)
Tonight at 22:00 ET on Crypto Arena (Los Ángeles, California)
Lakers: 42-25 record (4th place on Western Conference)
Nuggets: 44-25 record (3rd place on Western Conference)
This Series: 1-2 record
GIBBI View: Remember that these two teams played last friday where Lakers played with its Team C (no Lebron nor Luka) and almost won the game, so Lakers will want to take revenge for that; Lakers only 1 game below Nuggets and it’s a must win for both teams; My Prediction: Lakers win by 1+ point difference
Happy Gilmore Is Back (VARIETY)
Adam Sandler is back on the golf course in the official trailer for “Happy Gilmore 2,” which also reveals the long-awaited comedy sequel will begin streaming July 25 on Netflix
Joining Sandler in the sequel are returning cast members Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald and Ben Stiller, plus newcomers such as Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce and Sandler’s daughters Sadie and Sunny
Kyle Newacheck, who directed Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Netflix’s “Murder Mystery,” is helming “Happy Gilmore 2.” The sequel is co-written by Sandler and the original film’s Tim Herlihy, while director Dennis Dugan is back as an executive producer
GIBBI View: A lot of people don’t like Adam Sandler’s movies but I think that most of them are good and make me laugh, so I don’t understand why people “hate” Adam; I want to watch this movie because when I was child I watched Happy Gilmore and I liked it
Google Acquires Wiz For $32 Billion (VARIETY)
Google clinched a deal for its biggest-ever acquisition, announcing it will buy cloud-security platform Wiz for about $32 billion in cash
The acquisition of Wiz is expected to close in 2026, subject to usual closing conditions including regulatory approvals, according to Google. Once closed, New York-based Wiz will join Google Cloud
Previously, Google’s largest acquisition was its purchase of mobile device maker Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion, which closed in 2012
GIBBI View: Yesterday I wrote that Google had started talks to acquire Wiz but I never tought that they were going to reach a deal yesterday in the morning; so in the end, Wiz’ board made the right decision when they decided to reject Google’s offer last year and wait until this year for a better offer
Players’ Group Files An Antritrust Suit Against Tennis Organizers (AP)
Calling the groups in charge of professional tennis “a cartel,” the players’ association co-founded by Novak Djokovic filed an antitrust lawsuit against the women’s and men’s tours, the International Tennis Federation and the sport’s integrity agency on Tuesday in federal court in New York
The suit by the Professional Tennis Players’ Association says the organizations that run the sport hold “complete control over the players’ pay and working conditions” and their setup constitutes “textbook violations of state and federal law”
The PTPA was founded by 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil in August 2020, aiming to offer representation for players who are independent contractors in a largely individual sport
GIBBI View: It’s sad that only the top 20 tennis players (men and women) can make it a living playing tennis, and the rest of the players are “suffering” to make a living and can pay barely their debts and bills; also, it’s good that top players like Djokovic can “raise their voice” to help tennis players that “raise their voice” but they’re not listening
Giants Sell Reported 10% Stake To Private Equity Firm Sixth Street (ESPN)
The San Francisco Giants have sold a reported 10% stake in the team to private equity firm Sixth Street
Sixth Street's investment will go toward upgrades to Oracle Park and the Giants' training facilities in Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as Mission Rock, the team's real estate development project located across McCovey Cove from the ballpark
Sixth Street is the primary owner of National Women's Soccer League franchise Bay FC. It also has investments in the NBA's San Antonio Spurs and Spanish soccer powers Real Madrid and FC Barcelona
GIBBI View: Yesterday I wrote that Oakland A’s is offering new shares in the team at a $2 billion valuation, and now Giants are selling 10% stake to a private equity to upgrade its facilities and to build the real estate development project; so you can see that both teams are offering stake (in different ways) in exchange of cash to use it to improve their facilities; so I’ve written here that U.S Sport Team (NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, NHL) are a great assest to invest, so I think that we’ll see more private equity firms that will invest in U.S Sport Teams
