Linda Yaccarino joins Health Tech Platfom eMed as CEO
ESPN acquiring NFL Network, other NFL Media Assests
LAFC reach agreements with Tottenham & Son Heung-Min
De’Aaron Fox, Spurs agree to 4-year, $229 Million Max Extension
Amazon is gutting its Wondery Podcast Studio (The Verge)
Amazon is splitting up its Wondery podcast studio just four years after acquiring it, as first reported by Bloomberg. As part of the change, the studio will shed around 110 employees, while Wondery CEO Jen Sargent will leave the company
In a statement to The Verge, Amazon spokesperson Alice Zhou confirmed that while Wondery will continue to produce podcasts, its narrative-driven studio, which has developed shows like Dr. Death, American Scandal, and Business Wars, will merge with Amazon’s Audible team
Amazon closed its $300 million deal to acquire Wondery in 2021. Over the past few years, the podcast industry has undergone a shift to video that has helped make YouTube the most popular platform for podcasts
GIBBI View: Spotify is the company that is leading in podcast field and it’s very difficult to compete against them, so for that reason Amazon has taken this difficult decision that it’s going to fire 110 employees; about that, remember that I have my podcast in spotify that it’s called GIBBI, and I upload the videos/podcast that I record here
Linda Yaccarino joins Health Tech Platfom eMed as CEO (Tech Crunch)
Linda Yaccarino’s next role after departing X as CEO will be another chief executive role at eMed Population Health, an AI startup building a tech platform for patients using GLP-1s
Yaccarino was a longtime advertising executive at NBCUniversal but left to join X as CEO for two years, where she managed to have a positive impact on the social network’s troubled ad revenue model, despite her and Elon Musk’s shared approach to minimizing content moderation
Though Yaccarino does not have experience in health tech, eMed said in a press release that they sought her out for her “undeniable ability to negotiate new partnerships” — it certainly also helps that her tenure at X made her well-known in the tech world, drawing more eyes toward the startup
GIBBI View: Yesterday that I saw the news I congratulated Mrs. Yaccarino for her new role in her career, and in the same time I asked her how different and difficult can be to work from a social media company to a healthcare company as CEO?, unfortunately she’s not responsed yet
ESPN acquiring NFL Network, other NFL Media Assests (NFL)
ESPN and the National Football League (NFL) today announced a non-binding agreement under which ESPN will acquire NFL Network and certain other media assets owned and controlled by the NFL, including NFL's linear RedZone Channel, and NFL Fantasy, in exchange for a 10% equity stake in ESPN
In addition to the sale of NFL Network, the NFL and ESPN are also entering into a second non-binding agreement, under which the NFL will license to ESPN certain NFL content and other intellectual property to be used by NFL Network and other assets
These transactions between America's most popular sporting league and the world's most innovative sports media leader are designed to set a new standard for how professional football is delivered, experienced and celebrated by fans.
GIBBI View: Two weeks ago I wrote here that this deal was closing, and according to some reports NFL paid between $2 billion to $2.5 billion to ESPN to make this deal
LAFC reach agreements with Tottenham & Son Heung-Min (Givemesport)
LAFC have reached an agreement with Tottenham for a fee in the region of $20-26 million (£15-20 million) for Son Heung-Min, and have reached total agreements on personal terms, and are now finalizing the blockbuster signing
All agreements are set, now everything needs to be finalized. The fee may set a new MLS league record transfer, which currently stands at the $22 million Atlanta United spent to acquire Emmanuel Latte Lath this winter
Son joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015 for £22m and has since scored 173 goals in 454 games across 10 years at the club. He is one of the most popular players, on and off the field, and won his only domestic career trophy last season as he lifted the Europa League with Spurs
GIBBI View: I don’t understand why Son decided to move on MLS when he’s just 33 years old, he’s in a great football level and next year he’s going to play FIFA World Cup with his country South Korea; maybe he wants to adapt to U.S. weather to play FIFA World Cup or decided to focus in increase his wealth because this movement is a downgrade in his career
De’Aaron Fox, Spurs agree to 4-year, $229 Million Max Extension (NBC Sports)
The Spurs and Fox agreed to a four-year max contract that could be worth up to $229 million, his agent Rich Paul told ESPN’s Shams Charania, then the team itself confirmed a few hours later
The Spurs traded for Fox at the deadline in a massive three-team deal (which included Zach LaVine to the Kings) after Fox’s representatives reportedly told Sacramento management he would not sign an extension with the team, partially due to frustration with the firing of coach Mike Brown
San Antonio is a patient organization and coach Mitch Johnson is expected to spend this season figuring out how Fox, Harper and reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle fit together — and especially how they mesh with Wembanyama
GIBBI View: I think that Spurs need to follow the Thunder’s playbook to try to win a NBA Championship in the next 5+ years, because Spurs have a lot of great talent but young, and I think that they should bring a top star (Giannis?) to try to compete since now or wait 3+ years to have real chances to win a NBA Championship, let’s see
