SoftBank makes $2B investment in Intel (Tech Crunch)
Japanese conglomerate SoftBank has agreed to make a $2 billion investment in Intel in a deal described as a commitment to advanced technology and semiconductors in the United States
The agreement, in which SoftBank will buy Intel common stock, was announced Monday after markets closed. SoftBank will pay $23 per share of Intel common stock. Shares of Intel, which closed at $23.66, popped more than 5% in after-hours trading
SoftBank Group Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son said in a statement that the “strategic investment reflects our belief that advanced semiconductor manufacturing and supply will further expand in the United States, with Intel playing a critical role”
GIBBI View: Remember that two weeks ago Trump accused Intel CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, and wanted his resignation because of harboring conflicts of interest without any evidence, so last week Lip-Bu Tan visited the White House, talked with Trump and closed this new investment, great way to negotiate by Trump
Carlos Alcaraz wins Cincinnati Open 2025 (Front Office Sports)
Sinner retired from the final of the Cincinnati Open on Monday “due to illness,” handing Alcaraz the title and its record $1.1M prize. It was the 4th time since May that the two have played in a tournament final, with Alcaraz winning at the Italian Open & French Open, and Sinner winning Wimbledon
The win brings Alcaraz to nearly $48.5 million in career earnings. He remains sixth in the world, but closed the gap to Alexander Zverev, who is close to $54.5 million after being knocked out in the Cincinnati semis by Alcaraz
Sinner won around $600,000 for his runner-up finish in Cincinnati, which had a prize pool of $9.2 million, up 35% from last year. He is up to $46.2 million, good for eighth all-time and less than $1 million back of Daniil Medvedev for seventh
GIBBI View: Sinner-Alcaraz are the new Federer-Nadal-Djokovic rivalry, and they will dominate the tennis for the next decade or beyond; US Open 2025 will start this sunday (August 24th) to September 07th, where Sinner is the reigning champion team and favorite, and both players will want to win their second US Open title
Browns $2.4B Stadium in risk to be cancelled (Front Office Sports)
The NFL team has received formal notice from the Ohio Department of Transportation that it is not issuing a permit for the planned Brook Park stadium because it would interfere with air traffic at nearby Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
The Browns, owned by Haslam Sports Group, plan to recess the stadium about 80 feet into the ground, but still top out at 221 feet above ground. That plan, however, is 58 feet higher than the maximum allowable height for that location, according to ODOT’s aviation office
The Browns, meanwhile, said Monday that veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, 40, will be the team’s Week 1 starter, ending what had been building intrigue around the decision
GIBBI View: The Browns being Browns, they’re one of the worst teams in the NFL history and it looks that they’re translating that bad performancing to outside the field because they can’t close a deal to make a new stadium; about the Browns, I think that they’re not going to qualify to playoffs because they don’t have a good QB but let’s see
YouTuber Mark Rober is getting a Netflix series (The Verge)
Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer now known for his science-focused stunts he publishes to more than 70 million subscribers on YouTube, will launch a competition show on Netflix in 2026
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year that Netflix had talked to Rober. According to that article, Netflix has also had discussions with the creators at Dude Perfect, a channel with more than 60 million YouTube subscribers, about a new series
The push from Netflix into bringing on YouTube creators follows the success of MrBeast’s Beast Games game show on Prime Video. That show debuted last year and quickly became Prime Video’s “most-watched unscripted show ever.” It has been renewed for two more seasons
GIBBI View: Now we’re going to see more youtubers trying to disversify their content and focusing in partnership with streaming and/or movie companies to create series/movies; by the way, remember that all the videos/podcast that I record here I upload in my spotify and youtube channels, check it out and subscribe
Leagues Cup 2025: Knockout Stages - Predictions (GIBBI)
Quaterfinals:
Toluca vs Orlando City
Inter Miami vs Tigres
Seattle vs Puebla
LA Galaxy vs Tuzos
Semifinals:
Toluca vs Inter Miami
Seattle vs LA Galaxy
Third Place:
Inter Miami vs LA Galaxy
Final:
Toluca vs Seattle
GIBBI View: This isn’t a fair tournament to mexican teams, because they’re going to travel to US and will play as away teams, so for that reason is very difficult to win it; but I think that Toluca is the favorite and best team of the 8 teams that qualify to playoffs, and I think that Toluca will win this title and will become the first Liga MX team to win it, let’s see
