Fox & Hulu Extend Streaming Partnership (The Hollywood Reporter)
The network and the Disney-owned streaming service have signed a new, multi-year content partnership deal
The deal also includes an extension of a marketing alliance tho two outlets forged last year, with Fox and Hulu branding jointly appearing on promotional materials
Fox was a partner in Hulu in the streamer’s early years before Disney acquired Fox’s stake in the 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox
GIBBI View: Here in México we don’t have a problem to watch several movies and series from hollywood because in Disney you can watch series and movies from another industry companies, and the same happens here (México) with another streaming companies like Netflix, Paramount and Max
MLB To Test Robot Umpires At Next Spring Training (CNN Sports)
Major League Baseball (MLB) will test the use of robot umpires as part of a challenge system during Spring training next year, with the aim of implementing the system in the 2026 regular season
The automated ball-strike (ABS) challenge system will be trialed at 13 ballparks hosting 19 teams in 2025 to allow players to experience the new technology as the league works out how best to implement it, according to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred
Through the new system, human umpires will still call balls and strikes, but teams have a limited number of challenges with which they can appeal on-field decisions. Teams retain the challenge if they are successful
GIBBI View: I think that this is a great feature to improve MLB and reduce the number of errors that umpires do every game and make the game a little more fair, but I think most people would confuse and would think that human umpires would be replaced to robot umpires
Gary Gensler Plans To Step Down From SEC In January (BNN Bloomberg)
SEC Chair Gary Gensler, whose ambitious agenda drew fierce resistance from Wall Street and the crypto industry, plans to step down on Jan. 20
“The Securities and Exchange Commission is a remarkable agency,” Gensler said in a statement on Thursday. “The staff and the commission are deeply mission-driven, focused on protecting investors, facilitating capital formation and ensuring that the markets work for investors and issuers alike”
His departure will leave the SEC in the hands of an acting chair who’s expected to be either Mark Uyeda or Hester Peirce — both Republican commissioners
GIBBI View: I think that this is a great news for market, investors and cryptocurrencies because Trump has been saying that will support market and crypto industries but let’s see if Trump will do that and not other thing
Derek Jeter, Eli Manning Invest In Steve Cohen’s TGL Franchise (Sportico)
Steve Cohen is shopping for stars for his New York Mets club this winter, but the hedge fund titan has already secured a handful of big-name investors for his franchise in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new golf league, TGL
Derek Jeter, Eli Manning, Jimmy Fallon, John McEnroe, Michael Strahan and CC Sabathia invested in New York Golf Club, according to Cohen’s family office, Cohen Private Ventures. In September 2023, Cohen secured the rights to the fourth of six TGL franchises via his family office
TGL was set to launch in January 2024 but pushed the date off 12 months after the dome of the custom venue under construction collapsed after a power outage. The TGL tees off Jan. 7. Cohen’s team will be represented by Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young
GIBBI View: Remember that last month I wrote here that several athletes and former athletes (Lebron, Davis, Barkley, Gronkowski) decided to invest their money in create production companies, and one of them was Jeter that invested in a TGL Franchise, so now the athletes and former athletes are smarter and richer than the past
NFL Issues Security Alert To Teams Regarding Recent Home Burglaries (NFL)
The NFL issued a security alert to team security directors and the players' union Wednesday about organized and skilled criminals that are increasingly targeting the homes of professional athletes, including the recent burglaries of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce
Sources say the FBI is investigating the crime wave as international organized crime. The league, the NFL Players Association and team security forces also have been monitoring the crime spree, which is believed to be tied to a South American crime syndicate
"It's legit," said one source familiar with the situation. "It's a transnational crime ring, and over the last three weeks, they've focused on NBA and NFL players, and it's all over the country"
GIBBI View: To be honest I don’t understand if NFL and NBA Athletes earn a lot of money why they don’t invest in security cameras or contract guard to watch their houses?, also most of athletes and/or their families share everything in social media and people always are watching where they’re or what they buy/travel and they’re a easy target to criminals
