OpenAI raises $8.3B in new Capital (CNBC)
OpenAI has secured $8.3 billion in new capital as part of its $40 billion fundraise, according to a person familiar with the transaction
Annual recurring revenue jumped to $13 billion, up from $10 billion in June, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss confidential financial information, and is projected to top $20 billion by year-end
Paid business users of ChatGPT have climbed to five million from three million just months ago, they said. The round was completed ahead of schedule and was five times oversubscribed
GIBBI View: This is the third AI Startup that raises capital this week, where last wednesday Antropic announced that had raised fresh capital at $150B valuation, and last thursday Ramp raised $500M at $22.4B valuation; and talking about OpenAI, this week the startup announced that they launched Study Mode in ChatGPT
Cubs Land 2027 MLB All-Star Game (Front Office Sports)
The league, the club, and Illinois officials confirmed Friday that the Chicago ballpark, the league’s second-oldest behind Fenway Park, will host the 2027 MLB All-Star Game. The event will be the first at Wrigley Field since 1990 and the fourth in the facility’s 111-year history
Since Tom Ricketts and his family acquired the Cubs in 2009, they have spent $1 billion to upgrade Wrigley Field and transform the Wrigleyville neighborhood, particularly through an aggressive, multiyear renovation effort called the 1060 Project
Before the 2027 MLB All-Star Game, Philadelphia will host next year’s Midsummer Classic, with that long-planned event designed to coincide with celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence
GIBBI View: The CBA will end in December 2026, so let’s see if MLBPA & MLB can reach a new CBA deal and there will be MLB 2027 Season, because in this moment there’s a high risk that MLB 2027 season doesn’t start and there won’t be a 2027 MLB All-Start Game, let’s see
Micah Parsons requests trade from Cowboys (Front Office Sports)
Hours after The Athletic reported that the star Cowboys defensive end was “considering drastic measures,” Parsons posted a note to social media detailing the nature of negotiations with the team, and finally saying he had requested a trade
“I no longer want to be here. I no longer want to be subjected to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me while laying it on the line,” Parsons wrote
Parsons, 26, is entering his fifth season, set to earn $24 million in the final year of his rookie contract. He has been seeking a new deal that most insiders believe will surpass the three-year, $123 million pact Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt recently signed
GIBBI View: Micah was so naive in believe in Jerry Jones’ word, because Jones is a businessman and knows a lot how to deal in NFL, so I think that Micah is looking for two things 1) To get a new deal & stay in Dallas or 2) Move to another team that can pay him the money he wants, so let’s see what’s going to happen
Reddit puts its plans for Paid Subreddits on hold (Engadget)
Reddit is reversing course on its plans to put some subreddits behind a paywall, at least for now. CEO Steve Huffman said the company is "shifting resources away" from the effort as it doubles down on search
To put this in perspective, during the last quarter, Reddit pulled in $465 million in ad revenue and just $35 million from "other" sources, like data licensing and Reddit premium
So while paid subreddits may still be on the company's roadmap, users shouldn't expect to see them any time soon. They can, however, probably expect to see more ads in more places on Reddit over time
GIBBI View: Reddit is trying to create new ways to create new ways to generate revenues, so for that reason they planned the paid subreddits feature but they understood that people didn’t like it, so Reddit will have to find out another ways to generate new revenues
Palantir lands $10B Army Software & Data Contract (CNBC)
Palantir has inked a contract with the U.S. Army worth up to $10 billion to meet growing warfare demands over the next decade
As part of the deal, Palantir will help the military streamline efficiencies while preparing for threats, consolidating 75 total contracts into one enterprise deal, the release states
Earlier this year, Palantir delivered its first two AI-powered systems in its $178 million contract with the U.S. Army. In May, the Department of Defense boosted its Maven Smart Systems contract to beef up AI capabilities by $795 million
GIBBI View: Talking about that, I think that I could sell my app GIBBI Speak to U.S. Army and U.S. Navy, because my app could help soldiers to communicate with foreign people in foreign countries without a translation person, so let’s start to work in that because I found out a new niche
