GIBBI, Today
In this newsletter I write the 5 most important news that I read in the day about businesses, media and sports in México and in the World.
Stories:
Cruz Azul vs Mazatlán
Firefly Aerospace Files for an IPO
Google Hires Windsurf CEO Varun Mohan
Wimbledon 2025: Women’s Final - Prediction
YouTube is Shutting Down its “Trending” Video Section
Cruz Azul vs Mazatlán (GIBBI’s Editorial Staff)
Tonight at 21:05 CT on Olímpico Universitario Stadium (México City, México)
Cruz Azul was eliminated by América in semifinals (again) but won CONCACHAMPION championship (7th title in its history)
Mazatlán finished in 16th place (17 points) and didn’t qualify to playoffs
GIBBI View: Tonight Cruz Azul makes its debut in Apertura 2025 tournament, where Cruz Azul has a new head coach (Nicolas Larcamon) and the “obligation” to finish in the top 4 and try to reach final; I’m not going to like that I didn’t like Larcamon’s sign because I think that he’s not the best fit for this team but in the end I’m going to support the team and let’s see if Cruz Azul can win its 10th Liga MX title
Firefly Aerospace Files for an IPO (Tech Crunch)
Firefly Aerospace is taking its orbital ambitions to the public markets. The company, which notched a string of successes this year, including a historic commercial moon landing, submitted its formal declaration to regulators Friday detailing its plans to IPO sometime this year
Firefly is heading into the initial public offering with $176.9 million in cash and cash equivalents. And while it has incurred negative cash flows and losses from operations, Firefly projected that its cash is adequate to meet its liquidity needs for at least 12 months.
The company intends to list on the Nasdaq Global Markets under the ticker symbol $FLY. The news comes after a relative quiet period of space company exits
GIBBI View: Yesterday I wrote here that Varda, another space startup, raised $187 million in series C, and I think that space startups will be a great field to invest in the future (5 to 10 years from now) because this field is increasing every year, but in this moment this field is “burning” a lot of money to achieve that goal
Google Hires Windsurf CEO Varun Mohan (CNBC)
Google on Friday made the latest a splash in the AI talent wars, announcing an agreement to bring in Varun Mohan, co-founder and CEO of artificial intelligence coding startup Windsurf
As part of the deal, Google will also hire other senior Windsurf research and development employees. Google is not investing in Windsurf, but the search giant will take a nonexclusive license to certain Windsurf technology, according to a person familiar with the matter
The person familiar with the deal says Google is paying $2.4 billion in licensing fees and for compensation
GIBBI View: It’s been a bad month for OpenAI, because Meta has poached several OpenAI’s employees (offering more than $100M compensation per employee), and now Google avoided that OpenAI bought Windsurf, because OpenAI was in talk to buy Windsurf for more than $3 billion
Wimbledon 2025: Women’s Final - Prediction (GIBBI’s Editorial Staff)
13. Amanda Anisimova vs 8. Iga Swiatek, today at 11:00 ET on Londo, UK
Anosimova did the surprise and defeated Savalenka in three sets (the favorite to win this championship)
Swiatek didn’t have any problem and defeated Bencic in two sets
My Prediction:
Swiatek win in 3 sets and win her first Wimbledon title
GIBBI View: Anisimova arrived to her first wimbledon final and grand slam final, where she’s looking for to win her first grand slam title and she’s the underdog; Swiatek arrived to her first wimbledon final and she’s looking for to win her 6th grand slam title (4 Roland Garros titles, 1 U.S. Open title), where Swiatek is the favorite to win this game
YouTube is Shutting Down its “Trending” Video Section (VARIETY)
After 10 years, YouTube is going to sunset its popular Trending page — saying that there are better ways for users to find viral videos and “micro-trends” on the platform
First launched in 2015, the YouTube Trending page is organized into four sections: Now, Music, Gaming and Movies. The site describes the page as showing “The pulse of what’s trending on YouTube. Check out the latest music videos, trailers, comedy clips, and everything else that people are watching right now”
But now YouTube is going to phase out the Trending page and the Trending Now list over the “next couple of weeks” and instead will point users to category-specific charts, the Google-owned video site said Thursday
GIBBI View: Remember that I have a youtube channel that it’s called GIBBI, where I upload the videos that I record here about my favorite sport teams games and other stuffs
