Google Announces Pixel 10 Launch Event (The Verge)
Google officially has a date for its Pixel launch event: August 20th, 2025. Google says the event will take place in New York City at 1PM ET, where the company will show off “the latest on our Pixel phones, watches, buds, and more”
During the event, Google is expected to take the wraps off its new Pixel smartphone lineup, including the base Pixel 10, which is rumored to come with three cameras instead of two, along with an upgraded Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL. Google may also reveal a completely dustproof Pixel 10 Pro Fold
As for its other devices, rumors suggest that Google’s Pixel Watch 4 could come with a larger battery and a slightly thicker profile. There haven’t been as many details leaked about Google’s plans for its Pixel Buds, but some reports claim the company is getting ready to launch another pair of budget-friendly Pixel Buds 2a
GIBBI View: I’ve never bought a Google’s phone but I’ve heard good reference and feedback; in my case, I prefer to buy and use Samsung or Iphone but depend the price and the phone
WNBA’s Portland Fire unveils Name & Logo (CNBC)
Portland’s WNBA expansion team on Tuesday unveiled its new branding and name, the Portland Fire, a rekindling of the city’s previous WNBA team that played from 2000 to 2002
The new logo features a rose on fire, a reference to Portland’s nickname as the “Rose City,” merged with the “unrelenting intensity of flame,” according to a release by the WNBA. The team colors are red, brown, blue and pink
The team is owned by RAJ Sports, an investment firm focused on sports, led by Alex Bhathal and Lisa Bhathal Merage. The Portland Fire will tip off in 2026 at the Moda Center in downtown Portland, the WNBA said. That arena is also home to the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers
GIBBI View: In this moment there are 13 WNBA Teams, where Portland Fire will become the WNBA’s 15th franchise, and for 2030 there will be 18 WNBA Teams (Cleveland, Detroit, Philadelphia)
Transit Software Startup Via Files for an IPO (Tech Crunch)
Via, the transit software startup that garnered attention for its consumer-facing on-demand shuttle service, said it has filed confidentially for an initial public offering
Via has been batting around plans for an IPO for years. The company filed confidentially for an IPO in 2021, but never took the next official and regulatory steps to enter the public markets
Today, Via provides the on-demand transit software for more than 650 cities in 30 countries, including San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Miami, and London. It also serves numerous small and medium-sized cities like Arlington, Texas and Sioux Falls, South Dakota
GIBBI View: In the beginning of the year I worked in a startup that I called it GIBBI Carsharing, that basically it was a customer to customer carsharing startup to connect people that wanted to rent their car to people that needed to rent a car, sadly I decide to put in stand by to focus in other projects
OpenAI says it will use Google’s Cloud for ChatGPT (CNBC)
OpenAI said Wednesday that it expects to use Google’s cloud infrastructure for its popular ChatGPT artificial intelligence assistant
The reach for additional capacity aligns with OpenAI’s desire for more computing power to meet heavy demand after initially relying exclusively on Microsoft for cloud capacity. The two companies’ relations have evolved since then, with Microsoft naming OpenAI as a competitor last year
OpenAI has added Google to a list of suppliers, specifying that ChatGPT and its application programming interface will use the Google Cloud Platform, as well as Microsoft, CoreWeave and Oracle
GIBBI View: It’s interesting how the Big Tech companies and AI startups make partnerships/alliances between each other to try to offer the AI best product possible, increase their customers/subscribers and revenues, and win the AI race
Fox Sports finalizing TV deal with Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy (Front Office Sports)
The network is nearing an expansive deal with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy that would include him appearing on its college football pregame show. The deal would also involve Barstool content being featured on FS1
Portnoy would join Urban Meyer, Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, Mark Ingram, Chris “The Bear” Fallica, and host Rob Stone on Big Noon. Charles Woodson also appears on the show on special occasions
Portnoy and Barstool Sports have always done well with the coveted 18-to-34 demographic, and Fox would be betting on this move being a counterpunch to Pat McAfee, who started his media career at Barstool after retiring from the NFL, on GameDay.
GIBBI View: Fox Sports did this movement to try to compete against Pat McAfee’s show, because Pat and Dave are similar and their market is the same, but to be honest neither of these two guys like how they handle their shows, especially Dave, but in the end they know how to generate content and stay relevant
