OpenAI Raises $6.6B And Is Now Valued At $157B (Tech Crunch)
The startup yesterday announced that it raised $6.6 billion in a funding round that values OpenAI at $157 billion post-money. Led by previous investor Thrive Capital, the new cash brings OpenAI’s total raised to $17.9 billion
Thrive invested around $1.3 billion, Microsoft reportedly invested a little less than $1 billion, while Nvidia pledged $100 million and SoftBank put in $500 million
OpenAI is reportedly burning through billions training and productizing its AI systems and recruiting coveted data science talent to stay apace with the competition. OpenAI has spent roughly $7 billion on model training and $1.5 billion on staffing
GIBBI View: Sam Altman is an amazing storyteller because that last week three OpenAI co-founders and employees resigned and investors backed Sam and OpenAI; something unusual is that OpenAI asked investors to don’t invest in its competition (Anthropic, xAI), this is because they’re scared to loss the advantage that have against them?
Miami Dolphins Owner Nears Selling Stakes To Ares, Joe Tsai (BNN Bloomberg)
Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is in advanced talks with private equity firm Ares Management and billionaire Joe Tsai to sell stakes in the NFL team and other assets at a valuation of $8.1 billion
As part of the agreement, Ares will purchase a 10% stake in the properties, which also include Hard Rock Stadium and F1’s Miami Grand Prix
Tsai, the owner of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and WNBA’s New York Liberty, will buy 3% through his family office, Blue Pool Capital
GIBBI View: Two months ago, NFL Owners voted to allow private equity firms to buy stake in NFL Teams, but firms can buy stakes as much as 10% per team, will have to hold any investment for 6 years and will be allowed to invest in maximum 6 NFL Teams; let’s see if this movement can improve teams to increase their value and improve their team and facilities
Dude Perfect Hires NBA EVP Of Content Andrew Yaffe As CEO (VARIETY)
Dude Perfect, the entertainment and sports company started by five buddies posting trick-shot videos to YouTube, has brought a new dude to the team — it has hired senior NBA executive Andrew Yaffe as its first CEO
Yaffe’s hiring comes after Dude Perfect raised more than $100 million in growth capital from private investment firm Highmount Capital earlier this year
Launched 15 years ago, Dude Perfect has amassed a following of over 100 million fans through their sports-centered content, including hundreds of trick-shot videos and content franchises on YouTube including “Stereotypes,” “Overtime” and “Bucket List”
GIBBI View: Interesting how a youtube channel can become a company and can generate a lot of revenues to the creators (there’s several cases about that); now Dude Perfect wants to give the next step and for that reason they raised capital and decided to hired a CEO; Dude Perfect needs to look in what Barstool Sports has achieved and what MrBeast is doing; in personal, this is an excellent news because I’m seeing that it’s possible make a living as content creator but it takes time, let’s see if one day I can make it
Thursday Night Football Game (GIBBI’s Editorial Staff)
Falcons vs Buccaneers, tonight at 20:15 ET on Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta, Georgia)
Falcons: 2-2 record (2nd place in NFC South)
Buccaneers: 3-1 record (leading NFC South)
GIBBI View: This is a tremendous game to start Week 4 where this is a divisional game where it’s in game the leading of the division and both teams are playing a great football in defense side and Bucs are playing a great football in offense; My Prediction: Falcons have the advantage to play in home buy Bucs have a better team and want to compete to reach NFC Championship Game in January, so I think that Bucs win by 3+ points and will keep the leading of the division
