Thursday Night Football: Week #3 - Prediction (GIBBI’s Editorial Staff)
Bills vs Dolphins, tonight at 20:15 ET on Highmark Stadium (Orchard Park, New York)
Bills: 2-0 record (leading AFC East)
Dolphins: 0-2 record (bottom in AFC East)
My Prediction:
Bills win by 14 points difference and continue undefeated
GIBBI View: Bills are one of the best teams in the NFL and it’s one of the favorite to win AFC; Dolphins have been one of the worst teams this seaso they’re in troubles because with a loss they can fall to 0-3 record and the season could be in dangerous
Nvidia’s AI chips are no longer welcome in China (The Verge)
Alibaba, ByteDance, and other Chinese technology companies are barred from purchasing Nvidia’s latest AI chips custom-made for China. The Cyberspace Administration of China banned buying and testing the RTX Pro 6000D chips
In August, Nvidia worked with Trump to broker a deal allowing the sale of H20 chips to China in return for a 15 percent cut of the profit. “We probably contributed more to the China market than most countries have. And I’m disappointed with what I see,” Huang said
China has been making moves to build up its own chip manufacturing capability after years of tit-for-tat export controls by the US to limit the sale of AI chips to China, and China limiting the sale of chip materials to the US. China has been using less powerful chips tailor-made for the country by Nvidia
GIBBI View: This is one of the consequences of Trump’s tariffs, where China is trying to “compete & defeat” US’ tariffs, so let’s see if this is going to work for China and increase its economy or it’s going to happen the opposite
NHL embracing return to Olympics after 12-year absence (CNBC)
The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan will mark the first time in 12 years that NHL players will return to the Games, something NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is expecting to have a big effect on the league
Bettman said, the league and the NHL Players’ Association worked to have the players participate starting in 1998. But that participation stopped after the 2014 Sochi Games, which Bettman said was a reflection of the evolution of the business of the league and the sports industry in general
Part of what drove the NHL back to the Olympic ice was a shift in that relationship. The NHL and NHLPA’s new deal with the IOC changes some aspects of their commercial arrangement and also upgrades the players’ living conditions while at the Games
GIBBI View: Each country/city that decides to host the Summer/Winter Olympic Games frequently select the sports that are more popular in the moment, and that the hoster has more possible to win olympic medals
Lyft & Waymo are partnering to bring robotaxis to Nashville (TechCrunch)
Waymo has struck a deal with ride-hailing company Lyft to launch a robotaxi service in Nashville in 2026. The company said Wednesday it will begin testing its fleet of all-electric and autonomous Jaguar I-Pace vehicles in the Nashville area in the coming months and will open up the service to the public next year
The deal also illustrates Waymo’s desire to move beyond being a sole operator and towards being an autonomous vehicle technology provider. Earlier this year, Waymo launched a robotaxi service with Uber in Atlanta and Austin
The Waymo-Lyft partnership in Nashville has one key difference from the company’s relationship with Uber in Atlanta and Austin. In Nashville, robotaxi customers will be able to access robotaxis in two ways. Users will initially hail rides directly through the Waymo app. Once the service expands, Waymo will also dispatch its autonomous vehicles for matched rides on the Lyft app
GIBBI View: Waymo has been very actived since last year bringing robotaxis to several cities in US like San Francisco, Silicon Valley, NYC, Dallas (2026), Austin and Atlanta; and Waymo striked a deal with Toyota in april; and abou Lyft, they are planning to launch robotaxis in Dallas next year, and Lyft bought taxi app Free Now early in the year; remember that I have a business idea where I want to create a Carsharing App, so let’s see if in the rest of the year or next year I can return to work in it
CVC Capital Partners & Apollo leading $19B PE surge in sports (PitchBook)
CVC Capital Partners last week launched a $14 billion Global Sport Group, the largest sports fund in PE history. The move is part of a broader effort by some of the biggest PE managers to push deeper into the sector
The news came just days after Apollo Global Management launched its own $5 billion sports investment vehicle, the first time the New York-based manager has committed permanent capital to the sector
According to PitchBook data, PE firms have been pouring money into sports in 2025, especially in Q3, which recorded the largest sports deal in history with the Bahrain sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat, and Abu Dhabi’s CYVN Holdings acquiring McLaren Racing for $4.7 billion
GIBBI View: Last month, I wrote here a news that talked about the notable PE investors in sports in this moment, so check it out because it’s an interesting article
