Leagues Cup: Cruz Azul vs Colorado (GIBBI’s Editorial Staff)
Tonight at 20:30 ET on Dignity Health Sports Park (Carson, California)
Colorado is practically eliminated, where Colorado has 3 points (1 win, 1 loss) and need to win its game and wait some combinations to qualify to quaterfinals
Cruz Azul is eliminated where lost the first game and tied the second game (won it in penalty shootouts), and this is a failure
My Prediction:
Cruz Azul win it in penalty shootout (finish tie in regular time)
GIBBI View: There’s nothing in play for this game because both teams are eliminated (Colorado has little possibilities to qualify), so the only I have to comment is that Cruz Azul need to play with bench players and focus in next game in Liga MX
My ONE BIG IDEA for Investing moving forward (The Pomp Letter)
Every great investor I have studied comes up with one important BIG IDEA in their career. The investor spends decades trying to express the BIG IDEA over and over again in a variety of ways
I have been thinking about this concept for awhile now and it recently hit me that I had a single BIG IDEA that I have been chasing for years. So what is my one BIG IDEA? …. The government is never, ever going to stop printing money
The key is to find the assets that are most sensitivity to global liquidity and/or the assets that benefit most from currency debasement. There are different applications of the idea in different geographies, different asset classes, and different industries.
GIBBI View: My BIG IDEA is to create an product that can be used for millions of people and in the same time it can improve its life, and of course that this product can make me rich; my Top 3 BIG IDEAS are: GIBBI Super App, GIBBI Media Company, GIBBI Speak and GIBBI Carsharing
Apple announces $100 Billion U.S. Manufacturing Plan (The Verge)
Apple is putting another $100 billion toward expanding manufacturing in the US as the company responds to pressure from President Donald Trump to manufacture more of its products in the US
The move builds upon the company’s initial plan to invest $500 billion in the US over the next four years, and includes a new American Manufacturing Program that the company says will bring more of Apple’s “supply chain and advanced manufacturing” to the US
Apple has agreed to an expanded partnership with Corning to manufacture “100 percent” of the iPhone and Apple Watch cover glass in Kentucky. It will also work with Samsung at its chip fab in Austin, Texas, “to launch an innovative new technology for making chips, which has never been used before anywhere in the world”
GIBBI View: So how much is going to cost an iPhone and Mac when these factories start to build the iPhones and other Apple’s products?, so the costs are going to increase more than 30% and the people aren’t going to buy them, so let’s see what’s going to happen but all people will loss with this deal
ESPN inks five-year deal for WWE’s Live Premium Events (CNBC)
The WWE is coming to ESPN. The Disney-controlled sports and entertainment business will pay an average of $325 million per year for five years of U.S. rights to the WWE’s biggest live events, including WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble and SummerSlam, beginning in 2026
NBCUniversal’s Peacock had previously paid $180 million per year over five years for the package. All 10 of the WWE’s premium live events each year will stream on ESPN’s new $29.99 per month direct-to-consumer platform in the U.S. Select events will be simulcast on ESPN’s linear networks
In 2024, the WWE signed a 10-year, $5 billion deal with Netflix to stream “Raw” every Monday night, beginning this year. Netflix will continue to stream marquee WWE events outside the U.S.
GIBBI View: Another big deal that ESPN made and closed in a back to back days, because yesterday ESPN acquired NFL Networks & other NFL Media Assests; also remember that last April, WWE bought mexican Lucha Libre Company AAA
The Billionaire Tax Trick Fueling Record-High Sport Valuations (Huddle Up)
The real reason WNBA valuations are multiplying is the same reason that all sports franchises have grown thousands of percent over the last two decades. American sports teams are the single best tax shelter for billionaires
When billionaires purchase sports teams in the U.S., they can legally treat almost the entire purchase price as a “depreciating asset” that loses value over time. Under current tax law, sports team owners can amortize intangible assets over 15 years, including player contracts, broadcasting rights, etc
The amortization advantage is just one of several tax benefits enjoyed by sports owners. Local governments often provide hundreds of millions for new facilities. There are also infrastructure benefits, like using taxpayer money to improve roads, transit, and utilities around stadiums, as well as property tax abatement
GIBBI View: Interesting analyze about the benefits to buy an american sport team (NFL, NBA, MLB, etc), and this is something that you don’t see usually in the traditional sport media (ESPN, Fox Sports, etc), so for that reason I like to read Jonh Pompliano’s articles (of course, where they’re free and available)
