Meta acquires AI Audio startup WaveForms (Tech Crunch)
Meta has acquired AI voice startup WaveForms for an undisclosed sum, The Information reports. It’s the company’s latest buy to strengthen its new AI unit, Superintelligence Labs, and Meta’s second major AI audio acquisition in the last month after it bought PlayAI
WaveForms, founded just eight months ago, raised $40 million from Andreessen Horowitz in a round that valued the company at $160 million pre-money, per PitchBook data
Two of the startup’s co-founders — former Meta and OpenAI researcher Alexis Conneau, and former Google advertising strategist Coralie Lemaitre, have reportedly joined Meta. While at OpenAI, Conneau co-created GPT4-o Advanced Voice Mode neural networks
GIBBI View: Remember that I’m working in create an AI Translation Company that I called it GIBBI Speak, where I applied to YC Fall 2025 and I’m trying to make it, so maybe in one year for now my company can become an unicorn ($1B+ valuation) or be sold to a AI Startup or Big Tech Company
Instagram reiterates Location Sharing is optional (Social Media Today)
After announcing its new Friend Map feature last thursday, Instagram has been flooded with misguided complaints and concerns about how the new feature will expose people’s locations without them knowing, potentially putting millions of people at risk
To recap, Instagram’s new Friend Map will show you where your friends are at any given time, while also highlighting places friends have been, via location-tagged Stories that they’ve posted
Which is pretty much the same as the Snap Map, but Snapchat doesn’t have as many users, and as such, it didn’t see the same level of backlash that Instagram’s now seeing, with many users complaining that location sharing like this is unsafe, and could even get someone killed
GIBBI View: This is one of the reasons why I don’t trust in any of Meta’s subsidiaries (Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram) neither another social media platform, but in the end you need to use one or several social media platforms to stay tune and know what’s happening in the world
OpenaI talks with Investors about Share Sale at $500B valuation (CNBC)
OpenAI is in talks with investors about a potential stock sale at a valuation of roughly $500 billion, according to two sources with knowledge of the matter
The talks are in early stages and would involve a secondary sale with shares sold by current and former employees. Thrive Capital, an investor in OpenAI, could lead the potential round
OpenAI rival Anthropic, meanwhile, is in talks to secure between $3 billion and $5 billion in new funding led by Iconiq Capital at a potential $170 billion valuation, up from $61.5 billion in March
GIBBI View: It’s been a busy year and month for OpenAI, because this week launched its new GPT-5 Model for all ChatGPT users for free, and OpenAI reported that ChatGPT will reach 700 weekly users; and last week, OpenAI raised $8.3 billion in new capital; also, OpenAI is doing this share sale because wants to retain its employees to avoid that they can be poached for Meta or another AI Startup
Netflix takes TV Rights in Canada 2027 & 2031 Women’s World Cups (The Hollywood Reporter)
Netflix is doubling down in North America on the women’s World Cup soccer tournament. The streamer on Friday announced it had secured the official TV rights in Canada for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031
That followed Netflix earlier picking up the same exclusive broadcast rights in the U.S. for the marquee women’s soccer tournament for 2027 and 2031 to expand its push into live sports
The current FIFA Women’s World Cup rights in Canada are held by TSN, the Canadian cable sports channel. In the run-up to the 2027 Women’s World Cup tournament, Netflix is expected to produce documentary series to spotlight top international players and the global growth of women’s football overall
GIBBI View: Netflix has started to diversify its core content (movies, series) and invest in new products like living sport games/events (WWE, Boxing, Soccer, NASA, etc) and in video podcasts, so for that reason Netflix has decided to raise its prices again and put as goal to have a $1 trillion valuation in 2030, so let’s see if Netflix can achieve that goal
Celtics sign head coach Joe Mazzulla to multi-year contract extension (NBC Sports)
Joe Mazzulla signed a multi-year extension to remain head coach of the Boston Celtics, the team has announced
Mazzulla led the Boston Celtics to an NBA title in 2024 and has had them at the highest levels of the sport since he took over. That earns a coach some extra years
This is going to be a gap year for the Celtics, who will not be a bad team, led by Jaylen Brown, but will not be title contenders without Jayson Tatum (torn Achilles expected to keep him out most, if not all, of next season) as well as trading away Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis
GIBBI View: Since 2021-22 season Celtics have been in 1st or 2nd seed in Eastern Conference, have played two NBA Finals and won one NBA Championship, so it’s a bad record but now that Tatum won’t play the rest of 2025-26 season for achilles injury and some roster changes, I think that Celtics will downgrade its NBA level and will fight for 5th to 8th seed in Eastern Conference
